Raising Money for Save the Bay!

The last accomplishment I would like to illustrate in my portfolio is the amount of fundraising we were able to do at the South Coast Center during the final weeks of my internship. Not only did I work hard during the semester to fundraise for Save the Bay, but through the combined efforts of the other South Coast Center volunteers, my internship supervisor Dave, and myself, we were able to raise over $300 through donations, sponsorships, and merchandise sales!

I have included a slideshow demonstrating some of the fundraising we did at the South Coast Center with examples of the opportunities I had throughout my internship to gain experience fundraising as well as to improve my ability to communicate Save the Bay's mission and increase donations.

Throughout the semester, I helped fundraise small donations by speaking to visitors at the center about how Save the Bay promotes environmental education, restores coastal habitats, and works with the government to pass laws that protect the Bay. I also sold merchandise to visitors who were interested in Save the Bay gear and the proceeds from those sales went towards efforts to protect and restore the Narragansett Bay area as well.

Our biggest fundraising opportunity was during the weeks leading up the 19th Annual Pawcatuck River Duck Race on April 29th. Save the Bay sold sponsorships for rubber duckies that raced down the Pawcatuck River and the opportunity to win great prizes if your duck was one of the first 101 duckies to cross the finish line! The South Coast Center managed to sell 104 sponsorships for rubber ducks, raising $296 overall! We also saw a record number of visitors on the day of the race and took in even more donations.

Participating in this rewarding fundraising opportunity was a chance for me to help the organization in a tangible way. Through this experience selling sponsorships for the Duck Race, I grew more comfortable with the prospect of fundraising and I became better able to share Save the Bay's mission.
